First and foremost, teaching hospitals are community-owned and community-anchored entities accountable and responsive to their local communities. They also lead nationally recognized programs and services and provide expertise to state and federal committees and advisory groups.
Parkland Health’s president and chief executive officer, Fred Cerise, M.D., served for the past five years on the non-partisan legislative branch agency, the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission, which provides policy and data analysis and makes recommendations to Congress, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the states on issues affecting Medicaid and CHIP.
Harris Health System received the 2022 Gage Award for Population Health from America’s Essential Hospitals. The award recognizes the hospital’s community health worker home visit program for patients with diabetes. The Gage Award is AEH’s highest honor and is awarded for activities that focus on social determinants of health, such as food insecurity, homelessness, language barriers, and other socioeconomic factors.
