Monday, September 21, 2015
The Teaching Hospitals of Texas (THOT) Board today elected Dr. Fred Cerise, President and CEO of Parkland Health and Hospital System, and Mr. Jim Valenti, President and CEO of University Medical Center of El Paso, as Chair and Vice Chair of THOT’s 2016-2017 Executive Committee.
Representing 18 Texas essential hospitals and health systems, THOT’s Executive Committee will also include current Chair Patricia Young Brown, President and CEO of Central Health as Treasurer and Dr. Kirk Calhoun, President and CEO of UT Health Northeast as Secretary for the term starting in October.
“I am honored to serve as Chair of the Teaching Hospitals of Texas. THOT members play a critical role in our communities. Access to quality care is one of our biggest challenges,” Cerise said. “While critically important that urban and rural facilities offer access to all, we must ensure we are training providers dedicated to serving these populations. To that end, THOT members are committed to helping guide policies and programs to meet our state’s healthcare needs today and in the future.”
“THOT is a voice of credibility and economic sustainability when it comes to organizations that advocate for greater support of healthcare systems and programs in Texas,” said Valenti. “I intend to bring my many years of experience and commitment to quality healthcare programs to support Dr. Cerise and the organization — to the very best of my ability.”
Mr. George Hernandez, President and CEO of San Antonio’s University Health System will continue in an at-large position with newly elected at- large members Mr. William Webster, President and CEO of Odessa’s Medical Center Health System, and Christann Vasquez, President of Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas and President of University Medical Center, Brackenridge.
“We are fortunate to have such experienced, mission-driven and innovative leaders steering us through the opportunities and challenges ahead in public health,” said THOT president and CEO Maureen Milligan.
